Pikmin are born in the ground and reproduce asexually, and so are very numerous and prominent species in the ecosystem. That is, until he met and befriended the Pikmin, an alien race of miniscule, elemental plant-bugs. The planet was inhabited by vicious nocturnal predators that came out at night, and with his ship broken into pieces, Olimar was stranded on this strange alien planet with no hope for rescue. The cries of its brother would eventually reinvigorate The Knight to its true, original purpose, and it began its quest across the vast ruins of Hallownest to unlock its full potential and hopefully replace The Hollow Knight as The Infection’s perfect vessel, and perhaps help Hallownest return to its former glory.įun fact: His name is meant to be a tweaked anagram of “Mario” The Knight, devoid of memories, thoughts, or purpose, wandered aimlessly before eventually getting lost somewhere in the Howling Cliffs at the edges of the Kingdom, and staying there for years. Releasing it from its birthplace into the world, the king faded away and ascended, having used up all of his power in his efforts to restore his once-great kingdom. Shortly afterwards, The King finally managed to create his perfect vessel. Unfortunately, despite initially showing promise, The Hollow Knight could not contain The Kingdom’s Infection for long, and so it was sealed within a powerful Egg prison by three of the King’s most loyal subjects and left to slowly waste away while the kingdom attempted to rebuild itself. Many children were spawned, but only one was powerful enough to attempt containing the infection. Drawing from his Wyrm-like powers, The Pale King began creating “children” meant to act as vessels to contain the entirety of Hallownest’s Infection within their hollow shells. Though several attempts were made to halt the spread of the illness, each ended more disastrously than the last, until finally Hallownest’s King had had enough. Many years passed and eventually The Infection overtook Hallownest whole, reducing it to a shell of its former glory. However, the kingdom would soon be met with a terrible fate, ravaged by a mysterious, unstoppable plague called The Infection that would take over the inhabitants of Hallownest and corrupt their minds and bodies until they either died or became unrecognizable monsters. The entirety of Hollow Knight’s lore is much, much too expansive & complicated to fit into a blurb for a versus fight, but to sum it up: The Kingdom of Hallownest was once a lavish, technologically advanced, joyous paradise populated by many bugs, set up beneath the earth. But when size doesn’t matter, which one of these tiny fighters can outwit the other? Though they barely measure above 2 cm, these half-pint heroes have shaken up entire ecosystems and taken on threats dangerous enough to threaten even humans like us. Sometimes, the most impressive of adventurers come in the smallest of sizes, like Olimar, captain of the SS Dolphin and leader of the elemental Pikmin, and The Knight, a vessel born of God and Void meant to contain an ethereal plague. From cockroaches surviving nuclear radiation to the small mammals that survived the extinction of the dinosaurs, we may rule now, but sooner or later, they will remain to roam the remains of Earth. Many years after war and plague and natural disaster wipes the planet from any and all human life, the only beings left to scavenge and pick up the pieces of our once vibrant planet will be the miniscule insects and invertebrates beneath our feet. It’s widely agreed upon by the scientific community, and even backed by history itself.
